District court in Tokyo, December 2021. Akihiro Ehara is charged with touching a female passenger on a crowded train. The public outrage demands a maximum sentence after witness video of his effort to flee the scene and subsequent capture is widely reported.

Given that Ehara was not even put on trial for the murder, his defense attorney Saori Shirosaki is certain that important facts have been missed. She gets in touch with investigator Takayuki Yagami to look into this more.
